We will never know what was going threw Ruby's mind at that point, but the immediate thought after she killed 13 of 21 chickens was fear. Fear of my boot, fear of Martina's boot. She spent the first night outside in her entire life, banished from the household, and our love. We though that that was suitable punishment for the murders, (better than the local cure which is to tie the dead chickens to the dogs collar until they rot off!)

Come and see the new farm! Well it's not really new, but it is very much improved! We have easily tripled the size of the garden area, planted sixty or so more trees, built a new greenhouse, and chicken coop. The chicks arrived yesterday and are Sooooooooo cute! They are currently living next to our bed in a banana box.
Take a look at our chicks(click here) one day old. (click here) One week old.
At Splitzville Farm, our aim is towards self sufficiency. To grow our own food and drink. We strive for an eco friendly existance, with solar power and water catchment. We long for a day when we drive our electric car to the local farmers market to sell our goods.
The idea that one would compose a meal in which the ingredients had traveled farther than us, is baffeling! We've traveled a lot, but some meals are full of items that are now common that have travelled thousands of miles to get to your table.
And they have the nerve to call them fresh!
Most importantly, our motto at Splitzville Farm is simply...
"Do what you want, relax, say what you feel" and it seems to be working, both of us are healthier and happier since the inception of the farm.
